How to Use MAPC2MAPC to Manipulate Digital Maps

Once you have downloaded and installed MAPC2MAPC, you can start using it to manipulate digital maps. MAPC2MAPC has two different user interfaces: Wizard mode and Expert mode. Wizard mode is the default for new users and is designed to simplify the common operations. Expert mode uses traditional Windows menus and offers more options and features. You can switch between the interfaces at any time by clicking the menu icon in Wizard mode or using File > Wizard mode in Expert mode.

The basic flow of the program is to load a map either from an existing calibration file or by calibrating an image; optionally to change the map using the edit functions; then to write the map and/or calibration in a choice of formats[^1^]. A separate function merges maps that are already calibrated. Here are some examples of what you can do with MAPC2MAPC:

  • You can load a digital map from another program or downloaded from the internet. MAPC2MAPC supports many different formats and datums, such as KMZ, KML, SID, GeoTIFF, KAP, etc. You can also load a map image without a calibration file and calibrate it manually or by using Google Earth.

  • You can change the map using the edit functions. For example, you can crop, rescale, reproject, rotate, merge, split, add grids, add tracks, add waypoints, change colors, etc. You can also view the map on your screen or on Google Earth.

  • You can write the map and/or calibration in a choice of formats for different platforms and software. For example, you can write Garmin Custom Map, Mobile Atlas, Trekbuddy Map, JNX File, ANDROZIC MAP+OZF2, etc. You can also write calibrations for OziExplorer, Memory-Map Navigator, Fugawi Global Navigator, etc.
